News from South Burlington High School!!

We just received news from David Young, Assistant Superintendent (and past Georgia Principal) in the South Burlington School District that South Burlington High School is interested in providing FREE round trip transportation services for all students in grades 9-12 to their school.  If you are interested, please contact the guidance department (BY APRIL 11th) at 652-7060 to get registration information.  Their final decision to provide transportation will be dependent on the number of students available to ride the bus.

Note from Mrs. Fisher: I realize our 8th graders have already registered at a high school.  If this proposed offer from South Burlington appeals to you, please contact their guidance office.  You can register your child at another school.  Just be sure to inform whichever school you choose not to go to, that your child has chosen not to attend.  Please contact Mrs. Fisher with any questions!

The Process:

Step 1: Choosing a High School - If you are debating about which school to attend, I recommend you "shop around."  Attending the High School Fair (held at GEMS in January) is one event that allows you to hear what various schools have to offer.  Contacting the High School Guidance Office and arranging a meeting and/or tour for both parent and 8th grader is another way to help make the decision.  Note:  If a decision hasn't been reached before the registration process, it is highly recommended that students register at all schools they are considering.

Step 2: Registration - This step will begin in February after the High School Fair.  Registering typically includes address and health forms, but also the course selection sheet (i.e. choosing classes for 9th grade).  Each high school will ask the 8th grade teachers for their recommendation regading core classes.  Recommendations are based on a students performance, including grades and work ethic.  Electives are chosen by the individual student (and parent).

Step 3: Orientation - In April and May, most area High Schools offer an orientation day at their school.  What an orientation day entails varies depending on the school, but typically is an opportunity to tour the school and meet some of the staff.  Please note that some schools offer an orientation in the Fall right before school starts.
